South Africans are facing another fuel price increase.
Government has officially confirmed that petrol and diesel prices have gone up, with the new prices taking effect from 6 May.
Petrol 95 has increased by over R3 per litre, marking one of the more significant jumps in recent months. Diesel prices have also risen, adding pressure across transport and logistics sectors.
The increase comes as a result of a combination of global oil prices, the rand’s performance against the dollar, and adjustments to fuel-related levies.
While the immediate impact will be felt at the pump, the knock-on effects are expected to extend further. Higher fuel costs typically lead to increased transport expenses, which can affect the price of goods, including food and everyday essentials.
With fuel playing a key role in the broader economy, the latest increase is likely to be felt beyond motorists in the coming weeks.
